Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has announced that Pakistan has emerged as the third-largest country in freelancing globally. He highlighted the potential of the country’s youth to become a major economic force.
Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, Aurangzeb emphasized that Pakistan’s population is predominantly young. He noted that the government is focusing on skill-based training to empower youth in freelancing and other digital professions.
The finance minister said that one of the country’s main challenges is the lack of discipline and focus on results. He stressed that structured efforts are required to harness the potential of young professionals.
“We are a nation of 240 million people, with an annual growth rate of 2.5 percent. To reduce poverty, we must move toward sustainable economic development,” he added. Aurangzeb linked the growth of the freelancing sector to broader economic progress and digital innovation.
Aurangzeb also spoke about the development of Pakistan’s Social Impact Financing Framework. He clarified that it is not merely a policy statement but a functional financial structure to support growth initiatives. The framework aims to promote results-based funding and encourage public-private partnerships.
The finance minister highlighted special attention to young women under the Pakistan Social Innovation Board (PSIB) initiative. He congratulated the NuTec and Early Stage Codiel teams for their efforts in launching the program.
He urged participants to focus on measurable outcomes and stressed collaboration between government and private organizations. Aurangzeb emphasized that these initiatives would help create more opportunities for youth in freelancing and other skill-based professions.
Experts say Pakistan’s growth in the freelancing sector reflects the increasing global demand for digital services. With proper support and training, the youth can significantly contribute to economic growth.
The government plans to continue promoting skill development programs and initiatives that help young professionals enter the global freelancing market. Analysts believe this could boost foreign exchange earnings and create sustainable employment opportunities.
