ISLAMABAD — Pakistan is taking a significant step toward a digital economy as the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication announced plans to establish 250 co-working centers nationwide. The initiative aims to support Pakistani freelancers and startups in scaling their businesses globally.
Officials confirmed that 40 centers were completed by June 2025, with 47 more planned during the current fiscal year. The government envisions all 250 centers fully operational by February 2027. These hubs will provide state-of-the-art infrastructure, training, and networking opportunities to foster innovation and entrepreneurship.
The project is part of the Prime Minister’s Startup Support Program and focuses on creating an environment where Pakistani freelancers and young entrepreneurs can thrive.
Each co-working center in major cities will span approximately 3,500 square feet, offering modern workspaces, high-speed internet, and collaborative environments. Smaller city centers will prioritize mentoring, training, and skill development programs.
In addition to physical spaces, the government has introduced interest-free loans of up to Rs10 million through partner banks. This financial support will help startups and Pakistani freelancers overcome funding challenges and expand their ventures without facing financial constraints.
The Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) has invited both public and private sector organizations to collaborate in establishing these co-working centers. The project follows a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, ensuring sustainable skill development by jointly covering training and mentorship costs.
Experts believe the National Co-Working Centers will create a vibrant ecosystem for digital entrepreneurship. By connecting freelancers, startups, and mentors across Pakistan, the initiative aims to strengthen the country’s position in the global tech market.
