The failure of PIA to deposit Rs. 4 billion in Federal Excise Duty earned from plane ticket sales was the primary reason of the account freezing. PIA was unable to pay for airplane fuel because its bank accounts were stopped, and Pakistan State Oil refused to furnish them.
However, following the resolution of their dispute, the FBR reopened PIA’s bank accounts, offering relief to the airline and its customers. To rebuild trust in its services, PIA will need to establish sound financial management techniques and ensure compliance with international safety standards in the future.
