The Sindh Workers Welfare Board has introduced a scheme to distribute 10,000 free electric motorcycles to women employed in the industrial sector. The initiative was announced by Sindh Labor Minister Shahid Thaheem on Friday.
According to the minister, registration for the motorcycles has already started on the official website, www.wwbsindh.gov.pk. Women aged between 20 and 45 who are working in industries are eligible to apply. The government has also reserved a 20 percent quota for minorities under this scheme.
Thaheem explained that applications will be processed through a digital balloting system to ensure transparency and prevent human interference. He added that successful candidates will be required to obtain a valid driving license within 60 days of being selected.
The Sindh minister highlighted that the project is an important step toward women’s empowerment, stressing that women form half of Pakistan’s population. He said that no country can progress without the active participation and development of women. The motorcycles, he added, will provide safe and dignified transport for female workers, enabling them to commute independently.
The labor minister further emphasized the importance of inclusivity, noting that minorities have been given a share in the scheme to recognize their role and contributions to society.
This initiative by Sindh reflects the provincial government’s commitment to supporting women in the workforce and addressing their mobility challenges. By ensuring easier access to safe transportation, the program aims to enhance women’s participation in the economy while also promoting cleaner, eco-friendly transport options.
With the launch of this electric motorcycle scheme, Sindh takes another step toward creating equal opportunities for all segments of society and encouraging sustainable development.
