Sugar Prices Drop by Up to 8.5%

The Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has reduced the price of sugar by 13 rupees per kilogram, bringing it down to 140 rupees per kilogram across the country. This price cut comes after negotiations with sugar mill owners, who agreed to lower the price of sugar by 17 rupees per kilogram following a request from the USC.

Previously, sugar was being sold at 153 rupees per kilogram at the Utility Stores. The USC had purchased 12,000 metric tons of sugar at 137 rupees per kilogram, but due to additional costs, the final price paid was around 152 rupees per kilogram. The reduction in price is now being passed on to consumers to provide relief.
