The government plans to seek parliamentary approval for proposed reforms at PIMS Hospital during the current month. Official sources say the process will begin after the prime minister reviews the recommendations.

A committee formed to examine the hospital’s administrative structure has completed its work. Its recommendations will now be forwarded to the prime minister for consideration.

Sources within the Ministry of National Health Services confirmed the development. They said the proposed PIMS Amendment Act would be presented before Parliament after receiving the prime minister’s approval.

The proposed legislation aims to introduce a new administrative model. Under the plan, PIMS Hospital would follow a structure similar to the Medical Teaching Institution (MTI) Act.

The proposed framework would place the hospital under a Board of Governors. The board would include representatives from different professional and social sectors.

Sources said the chairman of the board would be selected through a market-based appointment process. The proposed system is intended to introduce a revised governance structure for the hospital.

High-Level Committee Completes Recommendations

The prime minister established a PIMS Reform Committee to prepare recommendations for restructuring the hospital. Federal Health Minister heads the committee.

Its members include the federal law minister, the secretary of the Establishment Division, and the Higher Education Commission chairman.

Vice-chancellors of medical universities and healthcare experts are also part of the committee. Their participation is intended to provide professional input on the proposed changes.

The committee has completed its recommendations after reviewing the hospital’s administrative arrangements. These proposals will first be submitted to the prime minister.

Following the prime minister’s approval, the government plans to present the amendment legislation before Parliament. The proposed changes will require parliamentary approval before becoming law.

Proposed Board to Oversee Hospital Management

Under the proposed reforms, the Board of Governors would oversee PIMS Hospital’s management. Its members would come from various professional and social backgrounds.

The chairman’s appointment would follow a market-based selection process. However, further details about the selection criteria have not been announced.

The proposed administrative model is expected to bring changes to the hospital’s existing governance arrangements. It would also align its structure with the framework used under the MTI Act.

The government’s next step is to obtain the prime minister’s approval for the committee’s recommendations. Parliament will then consider the proposed PIMS Amendment Act.

The final structure will depend on the legislation approved by lawmakers. Until then, the proposed reforms remain part of the government’s planned administrative changes.
