Pakistan, Afghanistan Resume Trade Via Angoor Adda Crossing

Bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan has officially resumed through the Angoor Adda border crossing. The terminal has become operational after remaining closed for nearly two years, marking a significant step in boosting cross-border commerce.

According to a statement from the National Logistics Corporation (NLC), the terminal was developed to support trade and address long-standing demands of local tribes. Angoor Adda, located in South Waziristan, is considered an important crossing point for trade and movement between the two countries.

Earlier in July 2025, Pakistan and Afghanistan had agreed to open the Angoor Adda crossing. However, Islamabad linked the decision to the completion of the border terminal by the NLC. The matter was also discussed during the visit of an Afghan delegation led by Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Mawlawee Ahmadullah Zahid.

The project was completed within 30 days despite tough conditions such as the absence of roads, electricity, and water in the area. NLC engaged local workers and engineers to develop the required infrastructure. The new terminal is equipped with weighbridges, truck yards, banking facilities, fiber-optic internet, and power supply. Offices for Customs, FIA, Plant Protection Department, and other agencies have also been established.

Officials said that the terminal will soon be enhanced with a cargo scanner to further streamline trade operations. Digital systems like Customs WeBOC and FIA’s IBMS are already connected, enabling real-time coordination and smooth management of transactions.

The reopening of Angoor Adda is expected to bring major economic benefits to local tribes. Farmers and traders can now export their produce through a shorter and more accessible route. NLC also highlighted that 100 percent of jobs at the terminal have been given to local youth, helping to improve livelihoods and promote socio-economic development in the region.

The operationalisation of Angoor Adda is seen as a milestone in strengthening Pak-Afghan trade and regional connectivity.
