ECP Releases Postal Ballots for February 8 Polls

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has initiated the distribution of postal ballot papers ahead of the upcoming general elections, as announced by the electoral body. Eligible individuals are required to complete the voting process through postal ballot by January 22, and they can obtain the necessary application form from the ECP’s website. Once received, voters are to send their ballots to the District Returning Officer (DRO) within the specified timeframe.

Scheduled for February 8, the general elections in Pakistan have prompted the ECP to make comprehensive preparations, striving for foolproof arrangements nationwide. The electoral body emphasizes the importance of strict security measures, issuing a “Code of Conduct for Security Personnel” to ensure unbiased conduct during election duty.

The ECP’s protocol, excluding the Armed Forces and Civil Armed Forces, instructs law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to execute their duties in adherence to the law and within the confines of their assigned mandate. Security personnel, responsible for securing the printing and transportation of ballot papers and polling bags, will operate under constitutional provisions.

In directing LEAs to collaborate with district returning officers (DROs), returning officers (ROs), and presiding officers (POs), the ECP underscores the imperative for security forces to maintain impartiality throughout the election process, refraining from favoring or opposing any political party or candidate. Emphasizing the need for a peaceful and transparent polling process, the ECP warns security personnel against impeding voters from exercising their right to cast their votes.
