Heavy Rains Predicted in Lahore and Other Parts of Punjab

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted rain, wind, and thunderstorms in Lahore and parts of Punjab, offering a respite from scorching temperatures. This relief is attributed to an approaching westerly wave expected to traverse upper and central regions of the country.

Currently, a continental air mass dominates most areas of Pakistan, but the impending westerly wave is anticipated to bring a change. Partly cloudy conditions and the possibility of rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in Murree, Galiyat, and their surroundings on Thursday night.

As the weekend approaches, widespread rain, wind, and thunderstorms are predicted in several districts, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Narowal, and others. Isolated hailstorms are also likely.

This anticipated precipitation is welcomed news for residents enduring temperatures above the seasonal norm, with Lahore experiencing maximum temperatures of up to 40°C and Dera Ghazi Khan recording a scorching 46°C. High relative humidity levels during the evening hours have exacerbated the discomfort.

Authorities hope that the onset of rain and cooler conditions will bring relief to the populace from the recent heatwave. Lahore’s maximum temperatures are forecasted to range between 39 and 41°C during the anticipated wet spell.
