First Supermoon of 2025 to Light Up Pakistan’s Sky Tonight; Check Timings

Astronomy lovers across Pakistan will witness a stunning celestial event tonight as the first supermoon of 2025 rises in the sky. The moon will appear larger and brighter than usual, offering a breathtaking view for sky-watchers.

According to the Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the supermoon will become visible at 8:47 PM, rising from the east shortly after sunset and setting in the west before sunrise. The phenomenon occurs when the moon is at its closest point to Earth in its orbit, known as perigee.

Experts explain that during a supermoon, the moon appears around 6.6% larger and 13% brighter than a regular full moon. Tonight, the moon will be approximately 224,000 miles away from Earth, creating a noticeably brighter glow across the sky.

Astronomers recommend finding a location away from city lights to fully enjoy the view. Areas with less pollution and an open horizon will provide the best visibility for observing this rare event.

Pakistan will witness two more supermoons later this year. The next one is expected on November 5, 2025, which will be the brightest of the year. The final supermoon will occur on December 5, 2025, marking the third and last of the year.

Celestial events like this continue to fascinate scientists and the public alike. SUPARCO officials encourage citizens to take a moment to observe the night sky and appreciate the natural wonders of space.

For those with telescopes or even smartphone cameras, tonight offers a perfect opportunity to capture the moon at its most radiant. Whether viewed from urban rooftops or rural landscapes, this supermoon promises a memorable night for stargazers across Pakistan.
