Iran May Skip US Talks in Islamabad After US Attack on Cargo Ship in Hormuz

Iran May Skip US Talks in Islamabad After US Attack on Cargo Ship in Hormuz

Uncertainty is increasing over Pakistan-mediated peace talks between the United States and Iran. The situation became more complicated after a naval incident in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state media has suggested that Tehran may not attend the next round of negotiations.

The tensions grew after US forces seized an Iranian-flagged cargo vessel. The ship reportedly tried to cross a naval blockade in the strategic waterway. This development has raised doubts about the future of diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran.

Iranian state television reported that Tehran currently has no plans to participate in the upcoming talks. Officials cited several reasons for this position. They pointed to the ongoing naval blockade, alleged ceasefire violations, and what they described as threatening language from Washington.

According to Iranian media outlets, these issues are making diplomatic progress difficult. Multiple news channels in Iran repeated similar messages, suggesting a coordinated response from authorities in Tehran.

Despite these reports, no senior Iranian official has officially confirmed or denied participation in the negotiations. The uncertainty comes after former US President Donald Trump announced that an American delegation would soon travel to Pakistan for discussions.

Meanwhile, Iranโ€™s ambassador to Pakistan criticized US actions. In a post on X, the envoy accused Washington of violating international law. He also said the United States was tightening blockades while claiming to pursue diplomacy.

The ambassador described this approach as a contradiction between words and actions. He warned that tensions could continue to rise if the naval blockade remains in place.

The latest dispute began when US forces intercepted a cargo vessel flying the Iranian flag. According to Donald Trump, the ship attempted to breach the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. US personnel reportedly issued warnings to the vessel before taking further action.

When the warnings were ignored, American forces allegedly disabled the ship by damaging its engine room. The vessel was then brought to a stop and taken under control by US Marines.

Trump later wrote on his platform Truth Social that the vessel, identified as Tosca, was stopped in the Gulf of Oman. He also claimed the ship appears on a US Treasury sanctions list due to previous illegal activities. Officials are currently inspecting the cargo.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the worldโ€™s most important shipping routes. Any disruption there can quickly affect global energy markets. Following the incident, oil prices in international markets moved higher.
