‘My Wife Being Pressured to Leave Me,’ Tayyab Baloch Speaks Out on Threats

ISLAMABAD – Prominent journalist Tayyab Baloch, who was recently assaulted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters, has revealed that he continues to receive threatening phone calls from both local and international sources.

Speaking to a private news channel, Tayyab Baloch said calls have come from countries including Qatar and Afghanistan, as well as regions within Pakistan like Waziristan. He described the threats as coordinated attempts to intimidate him and his family.

“A call from a Qatari number came just as I entered the studio. I have the number saved,” Baloch shared. He added that his family, especially his wife, has also been targeted. “She was told that people are following her and that anything could happen. They even pressured her to separate from me to protect our children,” he said.

The threats come weeks after Tayyab Baloch was attacked outside Adiala Jail while covering a media interaction with Aleema Khan, sister of former prime minister Imran Khan. Baloch had asked Aleema Khan questions regarding property purchases abroad, which led to a violent response from PTI supporters.

“All I did was request answers from Aleema Khan, which they are now calling misbehaviour,” Baloch stated. He emphasized that multiple eyewitnesses observed the assault and confirmed his account of events.

Authorities and journalists’ organizations have expressed concern over the growing threats and the safety of media personnel in Pakistan. Baloch’s revelations have raised alarms about coordinated intimidation campaigns targeting journalists who cover politically sensitive matters.

Despite the threats, Tayyab Baloch stated he remains committed to reporting the news and holding public figures accountable. “I will continue my work, but I urge authorities to ensure the safety of journalists and their families,” he said.
