ICC Suspends Sri Lanka Cricket Board for Breach of Obligations

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Board has taken the decision to suspend Sri Lanka Cricket’s membership with immediate effect.

The board determined that Sri Lanka Cricket is in serious breach of its obligations as a member, specifically citing a failure to manage its affairs autonomously and prevent government interference in the governance, regulation, and administration of cricket in Sri Lanka.

The suspension conditions will be decided by the ICC Board in due course. This decision comes after Sri Lanka Cricket faced upheaval, with the sports minister dismissing the board following the country’s poor performance in the ICC World Cup 2023.

However, the country’s Court of Appeal quashed the minister’s decision and temporarily restored the expelled officials pending a full hearing.
