Imran Khan, Mahmood Qureshi, And Others Have Been Cleared In The ECP Protest Case

Imran Khan, along with several other PTI leaders, has been acquitted by a district and sessions court in Islamabad in a case filed at Aapbara Police Station. Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mehmood delivered the verdict today, which had been reserved last week following petitions seeking their exoneration.

The leaders cleared in this case include Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Sheikh Rasheed, Asad Qaiser, Shehryar Afridi, Faisal Javed, Raja Khurram Nawaz, and Ali Nawaz Awan. Advocates Sardar Masroof and Ansar Kayani represented Khan and others during the proceedings.

The case stemmed from protests against the Election Commission of Pakistan’s Toshakhana verdict in 2022, which temporarily barred Khan’s from holding public office. Following his removal as prime minister in 2022, Imran Khan has faced a series of legal challenges, including allegations ranging from corruption to terrorism.

Currently incarcerated since last August, Imran Khan has been convicted in some cases prior to this year’s national election and continues to contend with numerous other legal battles. The only remaining obstacle to his release is the ongoing iddat or “un-Islamic marriage” case, with court proceedings expected to conclude by the end of this month.
