India advanced to the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 with a thrilling seven-wicket victory over the USA in New York on Wednesday. Suryakumar Yadav (50) and Shivam Dube (31) formed a crucial middle-order partnership, propelling their team to the next round of the major cricket tournament.
India’s top order, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant, fell early. However, Yadav and Dube’s impressive batting led Team Blue to reach the target of 111 runs in 18.2 overs.

The USA set a target of 111 runs for India to win the 25th match of the World Cup 2024 in New York. India won the toss, chose to field first, and restricted the host team to 110-8 in 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh took four wickets, while Hardik Pandya secured two.
The Group A teams faced off at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who won the toss and opted to field, stated, “We will bowl first. It has played better in the last two games, but you need to assess the conditions quickly and then let the game take over. It’s all about constantly getting better and keeping the momentum going. It’s important to do the right things. That was a great game to play; we didn’t have enough runs on the board, but the bowlers came to the party and won the game for us. We’re playing the same team.”
Both teams had two wins each before today’s match, which determined qualification for the Super Eight. If the USA had won, Pakistan would have been eliminated from Super Eight, as they secured only one victory against Canada.
