Karachi Heatwave Claims Lives Of Over 150 Animals In 3 Days

According to Shabir Dar, spokesperson for the Karachi Dairy Cattle Farms Association, over 150 animals perished in a severe heatwave spanning three days.

He highlighted that the heatwave not only claimed lives but also disrupted milk production in the city, largely due to the impact on infected animals. Farmers, he added, are suffering financial losses because timely treatment was not available.

Across Pakistan, a continental air mass predominates, with a shallow westerly wave expected to influence the northern regions. The forecast anticipates predominantly hot and dry weather nationwide, though isolated windstorms, thunderstorms, and rain are possible in Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar region, and northeast Balochistan.

Recent weather patterns have seen hot and dry conditions across much of Pakistan, punctuated by sporadic rain and thunderstorms in specific areas like Gilgit-Baltistan, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Barkhan.

Recorded rainfall includes Bagrote with 10mm, Bunji with 4mm, and Gupis with 2mm in Gilgit Baltistan; Balakot with 5mm and Upper Dir with 1mm in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; and Barkhan with 3mm in Balochistan.

The highest maximum temperatures recorded today were 49°C in Turbat, and 47°C in Sibbi, Dadu, Chhor, and Shaheed Benazirabad. Other areas experiencing high temperatures included Sakrand, Bhakkar, and Padidan at 46°C.
