Alia Bhatt has officially confirmed that she will star in Tumbbad 2 alongside Sohum Shah, ending weeks of speculation about her involvement in the much-awaited horror sequel. The announcement has generated excitement among fans, as the film marks her first major venture into the horror genre.
The confirmation came through an Instagram post that welcomed Alia Bhatt to the project with the message, “A new chapter unfolds. Welcome to #Tumbbad2, @aliaabhatt.”
According to media reports, the actress quickly agreed to join the film after hearing its script. Reports suggest she was impressed by the story’s emotional depth and the dark, immersive world created for the sequel. Her shooting schedule is expected to last around 20 days.
Speaking about the project, Alia Bhatt said that Tumbbad had remained with her ever since she first watched it. She described the original film as one of the rare movies that created a unique and unforgettable cinematic world.
The actress added that only a few films continue to grow in popularity years after their release. She said she is excited to become part of a story that has earned such a loyal fan following.
Alia also expressed her enthusiasm about working with Sohum Shah and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. She praised both actors and said she has admired their work for a long time.
She added that she is looking forward to creating something special with the team and cannot wait for audiences to experience the film when it reaches cinemas.
Tumbbad 2 is being directed by Adesh Prasad. The production has already begun on a large scale. According to reports, the filmmakers have constructed a massive 7 to 8-acre set in Mumbai for the first shooting schedule.
The elaborate set reportedly recreates an entire city and reflects the ambitious vision behind the sequel. Reports also suggest that nearly Rs100 crore has been allocated for the first phase of production, making it one of the biggest horror film projects in recent years.
Filming for the movie began on April 7, 2026. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on December 3, 2027. It will carry the tagline, “Pralay Aayega.”
The original Tumbbad was released in 2018. Although it received critical acclaim, it did not perform well at the box office during its initial release.
However, the film gained widespread recognition after its arrival on streaming platforms and its theatrical re-release. It later earned more than Rs38 crore, establishing itself as a cult favorite among audiences.
Sohum Shah will return to reprise his role in the sequel. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is also set to appear in the upcoming film, further strengthening the cast.
The makers have confirmed that Tumbbad will now expand into a trilogy. With Alia Bhatt joining the cast, expectations for the sequel continue to grow as production moves forward toward its planned 2027 release.
