Ayesha Omar’s ‘Lazawaal Ishq’ to Stream Online, Not on TV

The much-discussed Urdu reality dating show Lazawaal Ishq, hosted by actor Ayesha Omar, will not air on television. Pakistan’s media regulator confirmed that the series is a digital-only production and will be available online.

On Tuesday, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) issued a clarification after receiving several complaints.

The authority stated that Lazawaal Ishq will not be broadcast on any licensed TV channel under Pemra. It explained that the law applies only to channels within its jurisdiction, while digital platforms are outside its scope.

The announcement ends days of speculation over whether the show might reach mainstream television. Social media discussions around the programme had sparked debates about its content and format.

Modelled on the Turkish reality hit Aşk Adası, the show will feature four men and four women living together in a villa. Their interactions, challenges, and relationships will unfold over 100 episodes, with the winning couple announced at the finale.

The teaser introduces Omar in Istanbul, standing against the Bosphorus before entering the villa, a modern residence with a pool where contestants will spend their time.

While similar reality formats have been produced for Persian and Arabic audiences, this is the first version in Urdu. Its release has attracted attention due to its bold theme, marking a new direction for digital entertainment in Pakistan.

With Pemra confirming its online release, the series is set to reach audiences directly on streaming platforms. The move highlights how digital media is creating space for content that does not fit traditional TV boundaries.
