Buff Bagwell Shares His Journey to Leg Amputation After Car Accident

Marcus Buff Bagwell, the former WCW star, has opened up about the life-altering events that led to his right leg being amputated. In a heartfelt account, Bagwell revealed that his journey began in August 2020 when he was involved in a serious car crash. The accident caused his patella tendon to cave in, setting off a series of health complications that would span over years.

Following the crash, Bagwell was hospitalized for seven weeks and endured a total of 21 surgeries. Despite these efforts to repair his leg, his recovery took a significant toll on his mental and physical well-being. Bagwell admitted that this period led to excessive drinking and social isolation, marking what he described as a “dark time” in his life.

However, Bagwell found support from his longtime friend, Diamond Dallas Page. Page encouraged him to seek help, and in August 2022, Bagwell entered rehab, where he achieved sobriety. Since then, Bagwell has been sober for three years, crediting Page’s intervention with turning his life around.

Despite undergoing numerous procedures, Bagwell’s right leg remained at risk. After a procedure on his knee, he developed a severe infection, which ultimately led to the decision to amputate his leg. Doctors told him that saving the leg would require a year of surgeries, physical therapy, and a steel rod insertion, with only a 20% chance of success. Faced with these odds, Bagwell made the difficult decision to have his leg amputated.

Earlier this month, Bagwell underwent the procedure, and he invited fellow wrestler Maven Huffman to capture footage of him in the hospital after the surgery. Bagwell, now 55, shared his story as a way to inspire others, highlighting both the physical and emotional struggles he’s faced.

Bagwell’s career in professional wrestling began in 1990, and he became one of the most prominent stars in WCW, particularly as a member of the N.W.O. during the height of the Monday Night War. Despite the challenges he’s faced, Bagwell’s resilience continues to inspire both his fans and peers.
