Crypto Tycoon Justin Sun Eats $6.2M Banana

Justin Sun, the crypto mogul who spent $6.2 million on Maurizio Cattelan’s conceptual artwork Comedian—a banana duct-taped to a wall—made headlines by eating a banana at a press conference in Hong Kong. The event took place at a luxury hotel, where Sun praised the artwork and drew parallels between conceptual art and cryptocurrency.

Sun described the banana as “iconic” and remarked, “It’s much better than other bananas.” His decision to eat the fruit was intended to make it part of the artwork’s history, he explained.

Cattelan’s Comedian gained fame during its debut at the 2019 Art Basel show, sparking debates on what constitutes art. Sun likened it to NFT art and blockchain, noting their existence primarily in intellectual and digital spaces.

In addition to his antics, Sun recently invested $30 million in World Liberty Financial, a crypto initiative backed by US president-elect Donald Trump. Sun dismissed speculation that his investment aimed to influence politics, emphasizing the project’s apolitical stance.
