Death Anniversary of the Iconic Pop Star Nazia Hassan Being Observed Today

Today marks the death anniversary of Nazia Hassan, Pakistan’s first iconic pop singer.

Despite living only 35 years, Nazia Hassan achieved remarkable success and fame in the music industry.

Born on April 3, 1965, in Karachi, Nazia started her singing career as a child artist on PTV during the late 1970s.

Her professional breakthrough came at the age of fifteen when she provided the lead vocals for the song “Aap Jaisa Koi” from the 1980 Indian film “Qurbani,” earning her a Filmfare Award in 1981.

In the same year, Nazia Hassan made history as the first playback singer to release an album with her debut “Disco Deewane.”

In 1988, Nazia and her brother Zoheb joined music expert Sohail Rana on the TV program “Sung Sung.” The following year, they hosted the pioneering show “Music 89” and Nazia also hosted “Dhanak” on PTV in 1989.

Nazia Hassan passed away from lung cancer in London on August 13, 2000, at the age of 35. In recognition of her contributions, the Government of Pakistan awarded her the prestigious Pride of Performance.
