Disney’s Snow White Remake Faces Backlash Over Casting and Story Changes

Snow White

Disney’s latest live-action remake, Snow White, has been embroiled in controversy, from casting choices to storyline revisions. The $270 million film premiered with restricted media access, likely due to heated debates surrounding its production.

Lead actress Rachel Zegler, of Colombian and Polish descent, faced racist backlash over her casting, similar to The Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey. Zegler also criticized the original film’s prince, calling him a “stalker,” and highlighted a revised storyline focused on Snow White’s self-discovery rather than romance.

Another controversy arose when Peter Dinklage criticized the portrayal of the seven dwarfs, leading Disney to replace them with CGI-created “magical creatures.” However, some actors with dwarfism argued this decision harmed their career opportunities.

Calls for a boycott also emerged due to Israeli actress Gal Gadot playing the Evil Queen, with political tensions fueling speculation about a rift between Gadot and Zegler.

The film continues to spark debate as Disney grapples with modernizing its classics while facing criticism from various sides.
