The much-anticipated Harry Potter HBO series has officially entered production, with the first image of lead actor Dominic McLaughlin in costume as Harry Potter released this Monday. The new TV adaptation, based on J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series, promises to take fans on an extended magical journey. Unlike the original films, the Harry Potter HBO series is expected to span a decade, offering a deeper exploration of the plot and characters.
In the first teaser image, 11-year-old Dominic McLaughlin appears in full costume, marking a major milestone in the production. Alongside McLaughlin, several other cast members have been confirmed, including Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.
The series will also feature well-known stars such as John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. The child actors playing Harry, Ron, and Hermione were announced earlier in May, sparking excitement among long-time fans of the wizarding world.
Filming will take place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire, the iconic location where all eight Harry Potter films were shot. HBO has previously stated that the series will be a “faithful adaptation” of Rowling’s books, with more room to delve into the plotlines that were not fully explored in the films due to time constraints.
New production staff have also been confirmed, including director of photography Adriano Goldman and hair and makeup designer Cate Hall, both of whom have worked on The Crown. The first season of the Harry Potter HBO series is expected to be released in 2027, promising a thrilling new chapter for fans of the wizarding world.
