Pakistani pop icon and philanthropist Hadiqa Kiani has been named in the BBC’s 100 Women list for 2024, recognising her remarkable contributions to humanitarian efforts in Pakistan. Kiani, who rose to fame in the 1990s as a leading figure in South Asian pop music, has become a symbol of resilience and compassion through her social work.
The BBC highlighted her Vaseelae Raah project, launched in response to Pakistan’s devastating 2022 floods. The initiative has provided long-term relief by building 370 homes, schools, and healthcare facilities for displaced families in Balochistan and South Punjab. Kiani’s hands-on approach to aiding victims has set her apart, reflecting her commitment to social causes beyond her musical achievements.

Alongside Kiani, the 2024 list includes other impactful figures like Mahrang Baloch, who has campaigned against enforced disappearances in Balochistan. Her activism through the Baloch Yakjehti Committee and a 1,600-kilometre march to Islamabad have made her a prominent voice for human rights.
The BBC’s annual 100 Women series, launched in 2013, celebrates women making a difference globally. This year’s list features individuals tackling issues from climate change to human rights, with icons like astronaut Sunita Williams and actor Sharon Stone also honoured.
