Pakistani singer Hasan Raheem has submitted his song Bewajah for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards. The singer announced the news through an Instagram post on Thursday.
According to his announcement, the song has been submitted in two categories. These are Best Music Video and Best Global Music Performance.
The submission marks another step in Hasan Raheem’s musical journey towards international recognition. However, submitting a song does not guarantee a Grammy nomination or a win.
The recording will now be considered alongside other eligible entries. The final nominations will depend on the awards process and voting by eligible Recording Academy members.
The announcement has drawn attention to Bewajah, a song that reflects Raheem’s musical roots. Its blend of regional languages and visuals from northern Pakistan gives the release a distinct identity.
About Hasan Raheem’s Song Bewajah
Released earlier this year, Bewajah combines Urdu and Shina lyrics. The song draws inspiration from the musical traditions of Gilgit-Baltistan, Hasan Raheem’s native region.
Its music video is another notable feature of the release. The video was filmed against the towering mountains of northern Pakistan, highlighting the region’s natural scenery.
One scene features a traditional polo match. Raheem appears dressed in white clothing and jewellery, standing out against a crowd wearing black.
The visual contrast gives the video a distinctive appearance. The setting also connects the song to the culture and traditions of northern Pakistan.
Through its regional influences, Bewajah highlights the diversity of Pakistan’s music scene. Its Grammy submission could bring further international attention to the song and its artistic elements.
Hasan Raheem Joins Pakistani Artists in Grammy Race
Hasan Raheem’s submission follows other Pakistani musicians who have pursued recognition at the Grammy Awards.
Singer Meesha Shafi previously submitted her album Khilnay Ko for consideration. Arooj Aftab also submitted her song Raat Ki Rani during the previous awards cycle. Neither submission resulted in a win that year.
However, Aftab achieved a historic milestone in 2022. She became the first Pakistani artist to win a Grammy when her song Mohabbat received the award for Best Global Music Performance.
Her achievement brought greater international attention to Pakistan’s independent music scene. It also demonstrated the potential for Pakistani artists to reach global audiences.
Pakistani sound engineer Taurees Habib has also received a Grammy. He was recognised for his work on the soundtrack of Dune: Part Two.
These achievements have helped highlight Pakistani talent across different areas of the global music industry. Hasan Raheem’s latest submission adds another entry to this growing list of international efforts.
When Will the 2027 Grammy Nominations Be Announced?
The Grammy Awards have several stages before the winners are announced. The first round of voting determines which eligible entries receive nominations.
For the 2027 awards, the first-round voting period is scheduled to remain open until October 22. The nominations are expected to be announced on November 16.
The second round of voting will determine the winners. It is scheduled to run from December 10 through January 7.
The winners will be revealed at the 69th Grammy Awards ceremony in February 2027.
Until the nominations are announced, Hasan Raheem’s Bewajah remains under consideration rather than a confirmed nominee. Its submission nevertheless places the song in contention for recognition at one of the music industry’s major international awards.
The announcement represents an important moment for Raheem and his listeners. Fans will now await the nomination results to see whether Bewajah advances in either category.
