Laapataa Ladies, India’s official entry for the 97th Academy Awards, has been eliminated from the race for Best International Feature Film. The Kiran Rao-directed film failed to make the shortlist of 15 announced by AMPAS on December 18, 2024.

Released in March, the film explores patriarchy and gender dynamics through a satirical lens. Despite its acclaimed premiere at TIFF and success on Netflix, it didn’t progress.
The shortlist features contenders like Santosh (UK) and Emilia Pérez (France). Oscars nominations will be revealed on January 17, 2025.
