Karachi Struggles After First Monsoon Rain: No Power, Flooded Roads, Heavy Traffic

Rain

Karachi’s first monsoon spell has thrown the city into chaos, with power outages, flooded streets, and traffic jams turning daily life into a nightmare. Days after the rain stopped, many areas still remain without electricity and waist-deep in water.

Over 350 K-Electric feeders remain down as of the third day, highlighting the city’s fragile infrastructure. On the first day alone, 600 feeders tripped, followed by 240 more the next day, plunging large parts of Karachi into darkness.

Several main roads, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, MA Jinnah Road, and University Road, were submerged, making commutes nearly impossible. Vehicles broke down in floodwaters, and many citizens were forced to push motorcycles through waterlogged streets.

The Met Office has warned of more rain in the coming days, raising alarms about the risk of urban flooding. NDMA has asked local authorities to stay alert, but citizens continue to express frustration at the lack of visible action.
