Pakistani television actress Khadija Saleem recently shared her emotional journey into the showbiz industry during an appearance on “Shan-e-Suhoor.” She revealed that pursuing acting was not easy and required convincing her family.
Khadija said that while she was in ninth grade, she told her mother about her dream of becoming an actress. Her mother discouraged her strongly, warning that the family could face disrespect if she entered the showbiz industry. She advised Khadija to stay silent and focus on other careers.
Initially, Khadija pivoted her plans. She expressed interest in studying interior design or event planning instead of pursuing acting. However, her passion for acting never faded. “I have had a passion for acting since childhood,” she admitted.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Khadija faced additional challenges with her education. She studied biology and completed her ninth and tenth grades during lockdowns, followed by eleventh and twelfth grades online. Despite academic struggles, she remained committed to her dream.
Khadija shared that her emotional support came from her younger brother. “During Tahajjud prayers, I used to tell Allah I couldn’t fail because my younger brother was supporting me,” she said.
Ultimately, she turned to her father, tearfully explaining her desire to act. “I eventually just cried to my father. He finally agreed and even accompanied me to my first audition,” she recalled. Her father’s approval became a turning point, allowing her to officially enter the showbiz industry.
Today, her father is her biggest supporter. Khadija humorously added that he even asks about her filming schedule. “He encourages me and asks if there are fewer scenes to shoot that day, and I jokingly apologise if the schedule is light,” she said.
Khadija Saleem’s story highlights the challenges young artists face when entering Pakistan’s showbiz industry. Balancing family expectations, education, and personal dreams can be difficult, but strong support and persistence have helped her succeed.
Her journey is an inspiration for aspiring actors, showing that dedication and familial encouragement are essential to navigating the competitive world of entertainment.
