Since 2018, 40% of Pakistani cinema screens have shut down, with 58 screens across 36 cinemas ceasing operations. Lahore has been hit hardest, followed by Karachi and Hyderabad.

Factors behind the decline include a shortage of films, shifting audience habits post-pandemic, and the continued ban on Indian movies. The 2019 airspace violation led to Pakistan reinstating its ban on Bollywood films, which remains in effect.
