Popular Pakistani YouTuber Rajab Butt is under investigation in three separate cases, including blasphemy and gambling promotion, authorities confirmed.
Additional Director of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), Sarfraz Chaudhry, stated that two inquiries involve blasphemy charges—one filed by Muslims and another by Christians—while the third concerns the promotion of gambling.
Rajab Butt reportedly left Pakistan shortly after the first blasphemy case began in June, and his name is now on the Exit Control List (ECL).
Chaudhry explained that if Rajab Butt returns to Pakistan, he will be arrested immediately. If he does not, authorities will file an FIR and pursue legal measures to seek his extradition through Interpol.
The process involves filing an FIR, obtaining a court-issued arrest warrant, and, if he fails to surrender within a month, issuing a permanent warrant. A Red Warrant could then be requested from Interpol after another month.
Media reports suggest that Rajab Butt is currently staying in the United Arab Emirates. Pakistan and the UAE have a prisoner exchange agreement, which could aid in his extradition if Interpol issues a Red Warrant.
Chaudhry also mentioned that under Section 88 proceedings, authorities can freeze Rajab Butt’s bank accounts, confiscate his properties, and block his identity card and related services.
However, he noted a key challenge: while blasphemy cases are taken seriously in Pakistan, Western nations often have different views, which can limit Interpol’s cooperation in such matters.
The case of Rajab Butt continues to draw public attention. Authorities emphasized that legal action will be pursued both within Pakistan and internationally if he fails to cooperate with the ongoing investigations.
