The federal government has approved a funding allocation of Rs1 billion for the production of a major historical drama series. The project will focus on the lives of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Officials say the initiative aims to educate and inspire younger audiences across Pakistan.
The decision was revealed during a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee. The session was chaired by Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar. Members were briefed on cultural and heritage-related projects currently under government review.
According to officials, the Prime Minister personally directed authorities to move forward with the drama series. The show will follow a storytelling style similar to the Turkish series Ertugrul. The government believes this approach will make the historical drama engaging and relatable for modern viewers.
The drama will highlight the struggles, ideas, and vision of Pakistanโs founding leaders. Producers are expected to maintain historical accuracy while using high production standards. The goal is to present history in a way that resonates with the younger generation.
The Iqbal Academy has already started preparatory work for the project. As part of research efforts, interviews are being conducted with descendants of Allama Muhammad Iqbal. These discussions aim to ensure authenticity in the portrayal of his life and philosophy.
While the drama project moves ahead, other cultural initiatives face financial challenges. The proposed National Museum near Shakarparian has been delayed. Officials confirmed that funds for the museum were withdrawn, leaving only Rs190 million for the project.
Committee members expressed concern over the delay and lack of funding. They agreed to approach the Prime Minister to seek restoration of the museumโs budget.
Meanwhile, the Evacuee Trust Property Board reported serious financial difficulties. The issue arose after the Federal Board of Revenue recovered Rs2 billion from the board. Lawmakers warned that such deductions could affect the protection of religious and heritage sites.
