At least 56 people were killed, and 158 others wounded in Sudan after artillery shelling and air strikes targeted a crowded vegetable market in Omdurman. The attack has been blamed on the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Witnesses described a scene of devastation, with bodies scattered across the market and survivors rushing for cover. Government spokesperson Khalid al-Aleisir condemned the shelling as a violation of international humanitarian law.

The shelling, which came from areas controlled by the RSF in western Omdurman, was accompanied by drone strikes. Medical staff at a nearby hospital struggled to manage the influx of casualties, with urgent appeals for supplies.
In a separate incident in Khartoum, two civilians were killed and dozens injured in an air strike targeting an RSF-controlled area. The ongoing conflict between Sudan’s army and the RSF, which erupted in April 2023, has already claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions.
The latest attack raises concerns about further escalation, with civilians continuing to bear the brunt of the violence.
