Salma Hayek was worried ' Black Mirror’ role would get her “in trouble”

Salma Hayek has revealed that she was nervous about playing herself in the upcoming season of Black Mirror.

The actress guest stars in an episode titled ‘Joan Is Awful’ in the sixth season of Charlie Brooker’s dystopian anthology series. In the episode, a woman named Joan (played by Salma Hayek) learns that her life has been made into a TV show on a Netflix-style streaming service.

In an interview with Radio Times, Hayek described her position as “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play an interpretation of myself.”

“I got to explore the concepts and clichés people have about me and be self-deprecating,” she said

“It’s as if I created an alter ego where I could do the most disgusting, grotesque things that you would never do in real life… and have permission to do that,” she explained.

There are numerous scenes in the writing that stunned me. There was one particularly difficult one that forced me to ask myself, “Do I really want to do this?” “Will I get into trouble?”

Co-stars of ‘Joan Is Awful’ include Michael Cera, Ben Barnes, and Rob Delaney. Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara, Monica Dolan, Rory Culkin, Samuel Blenkin, and Zazie Beetz also feature in the new season.

Critics have generally praised the sixth season, which debuted on Netflix on June 15, calling the new episodes “thrilling” and “scathing and sadistic as ever.” Some, on the other hand, have called the season “hit-or-miss.”

The Independent gave it three stars, saying that the “sci-fi mishmash needs to stop messing with a winning formula,” but that it “also brings something new.”

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter noted it’s a “radical change of pace from Black Mirror as we’ve come to know it,” but it’s “the freshest this series has felt since at least 2017.”
