Netflix has confirmed that production on Scooby-Doo: Origins has officially wrapped. The live-action series is scheduled for a global release in 2027.

The upcoming show will offer a modern take on the famous mystery-solving group. It will also introduce a major change to the character of Scooby-Doo.

The story follows longtime friends Shaggy Rogers and Daphne Blake. They spend their final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears.

Their plans change after they become involved in a strange mystery. The case centers on a missing Great Dane puppy.

The puppy may have witnessed a supernatural murder. This discovery brings Shaggy and Daphne into a mystery that could reveal hidden secrets.

The pair later team up with Velma Dinkley and Fred Jones. Velma is portrayed as a practical and science-focused local resident.

Fred arrives as a mysterious newcomer to the group. Together, the four friends work to uncover the truth.

The series was filmed in Atlanta. McKenna Grace plays Daphne Blake, while Tanner Hagen portrays Shaggy Rogers.

Abby Ryder Fortson stars as Velma Dinkley. Maxwell Jenkins takes on the role of Fred Jones.

The new series also features a major franchise first. A real Great Dane will portray Scooby-Doo in the live-action production.

This marks the first time a real dog has played the famous character. Previous versions have used animation, visual effects or computer-generated imagery.

Netflix previously released a short teaser offering the first look at the series. The 21-second clip is shown from the puppy’s point of view.

The footage shows a Great Dane puppy wearing the character’s familiar blue collar. The puppy explores Camp Ruby-Spears before meeting young Shaggy.

The live-action approach has created interest among longtime fans of Scooby-Doo. The franchise has remained popular across several generations.

The cast also includes Paul Walter Hauser, Rusty Schwimmer and Peter Macon. Jona Xiao, Dani Deetté and Elysée Sanvillé are also part of the series.

Alex Isles, Avery Kristen Pohl and Sara Gilbert have joined the cast. Wynn Everett, Bruce McGill, André Benjamin and Cathy Moriarty also appear.

Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg serve as writers and showrunners. Toby Haynes is also attached as an executive producer.

Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman are among the executive producers. Warner Bros. Television is serving as the studio behind the project.

Netflix has not announced an exact premiere date yet. The platform expects the series to launch globally sometime in 2027.

The new production aims to present familiar characters through a darker and modern mystery story. The central group will face supernatural elements and personal secrets.

The decision to use a real Great Dane adds another distinctive feature. It gives Scooby-Doo a physical presence unlike previous screen adaptations.

Fans will have to wait for the full series to see the new approach. Netflix is expected to reveal more details ahead of its 2027 global premiere.
