Veteran actress Simi Raheel recently took to Instagram to criticize Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and the government’s response to Lahore’s worsening smog situation. “Lahore is dying, and no one is doing anything to save it. Not everyone has the option to go to London,” she posted, drawing attention to the severe pollution and the apparent inaction of provincial leaders.

Raheel’s comment quickly went viral, resonating with social media users who expressed similar concerns over the government’s environmental policies. While many supported her statement, others argued the current crisis stems from previous administrations’ failure to address Lahore’s pollution issues.

Currently, Lahore’s air quality ranks among the worst globally, with AQI levels soaring as high as 1,045 in some areas, compared to the World Health Organization’s safe limit. The Punjab Environmental Department is now considering stricter lockdown measures to address the crisis.

In response to the deteriorating air quality, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari posted on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting citizens “move to Karachi” for cleaner air, highlighting the challenges facing Punjab’s residents.
