Former US President Donald Trump has announced that fresh talks with China over a TikTok deal are set to begin this week, hinting that a major breakthrough may already be in place. Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump claimed the United States “pretty much” has a deal and may speak directly with President Xi or his team as early as Monday or Tuesday.
The negotiations follow Trump’s earlier deadline extension for ByteDance, TikTok’s China-based parent company, to divest its U.S. operations by September 17. A potential agreement to shift TikTok’s U.S. assets to a U.S.-controlled company had been on the table this spring but was stalled after Beijing objected due to rising trade tensions.

Trump admitted he isn’t fully confident China will approve the deal, but added, “I think it’s good for China and it’s good for us.” He also stressed his strong personal rapport with President Xi, suggesting it could help move discussions forward.
The deal, if finalized, could reshape the future of TikTok in the U.S., amid rising scrutiny over data privacy and national security concerns related to Chinese tech firms.
