X Dekho aims big but falls short of PSL anthem glory

PSL

The Pakistan Super League’s 10th anniversary anthem, X Dekho, is packed with star power — Ali Zafar, Abrar-ul-Haq, Natasha Baig, and Talha Anjum — but despite its ambition, it struggles to find its soul.

Zafar’s return stirs nostalgia, echoing earlier hits like Ab Khel Jamay Ga, while Baig’s powerhouse voice adds texture, albeit in fleeting moments. Anjum brings lyrical finesse, and Haq injects signature Punjabi energy, yet their segments feel detached — like puzzle pieces from different sets.

The anthem starts strong with nods to Sindhi and Baloch folk sounds, but these quickly vanish, replaced by a predictable beat more suited to stadium chants than repeat listens. Visually, it swings between grandeur and grassroots, but even that feels borrowed — eerily reminiscent of Hanumankind’s Run It Up, right down to the visuals and instrumental flourishes.

X Dekho tries to be iconic, but ends up as a collage of ideas that never quite click. It’s proud, loud, and visually rich — but not the decade-defining anthem PSL fans hoped for.
