‘Ya Ali’ Singer Zubeen Garg Dies in Scuba Diving Accident at 52

India is mourning the loss of its beloved singer and songwriter Zubeen Garg, who tragically passed away at the age of 52. The renowned artist died following a scuba diving accident in Singapore on Friday, leaving fans and the music fraternity in deep shock.

Scuba Diving Mishap in Singapore

According to reports, the accident happened while Garg was scuba diving in Singapore. He had traveled to the country to perform at the North East India Festival in Suntec, scheduled for September 20 and 21. He was rushed to a nearby hospital after the incident, but doctors were unable to save him.

Just days earlier, Zubeen Garg had invited fans on social media to attend his performance, assuring them of an evening filled with Hindi, Bengali, and Assamese songs. What was meant to be a joyful musical celebration turned into an irreparable tragedy.

Leaders and Artists Pay Tribute

The untimely death of Zubeen Garg has triggered an outpouring of grief across India. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described him as an “immortal voice” whose contributions to Assamese culture and music will never fade.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed shock on social media, writing that Garg would be remembered for his “rich contribution to music” and that his songs touched people from all walks of life.

Actor Adil Hussain shared his sorrow, bidding farewell to the singer with heartfelt words. Music composer Pritam, who collaborated with Garg on the iconic Bollywood song “Ya Ali” from Gangster (2006), said he was struggling to process the heartbreaking news. Singer Jubin Nautiyal also paid tribute, saying Garg’s music would “echo in hearts forever.”

A Musical Legacy That Endures

Zubeen Garg’s journey with music began at the age of three, eventually leading to his first Assamese album Anamika in 1992. His later works, including Maya, Pakhi, and Jantra, cemented his reputation in regional music.

His career expanded into Bollywood, where he lent his voice to films like Dil Se, Asoka, Vaastav, Krissh 3, and more. However, it was the soulful “Ya Ali” that made him a household name across India, giving him nationwide fame.

For millions, his voice was not just music but a symbol of cultural pride and heritage. Though gone too soon, Zubeen Garg’s legacy will continue to inspire generations of music lovers.
