Man City defeats Real Madrid and advances to the Champions League final.

Manchester City defeated league leaders Real Madrid 4-0 on Wednesday to go to the Champions League final for the second time in three seasons (5-1 on aggregate).

When it came to the 14-time European winners, Bernardo Silva’s two goals in the first half gave City the upper hand. Later, an own goal by Eder Militao and a fourth goal by Julian Alvarez let Pep Guardiola’s team revenge their heartbreaking semifinal defeat from the previous year.

After losing to Chelsea two years ago, Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Mansour will now be strong favourites to finally deliver the trophy he has wanted since purchasing the club in 2008. Inter Milan will be waiting in the final. Since Portuguese midfielder Silva beat Thibaut Courtois with a shot in the 23rd minute and then headed in his team’s second in the 37th, City has gone undefeated in 26 home games in the tournament.

In the second half, Real, the current champions looking to capture the trophy for the sixth time in ten years, were outplayed by a tenacious City team pursuing a triple.

After Kevin De Bruyne’s free kick off Militao in the 76th minute, Carlo Ancelotti’s squad was unable to recover.

After coming on as a late substitution for Erling Haaland, Alvarez added the cherry on top of a spectacular evening for City with a cool finish.
