Six football shirts worn by Lionel Messi during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar have been auctioned for $7.8 million, breaking the record for the sale of an item linked to the Argentine star.

The shirts, described as Messi’s match-worn iconic light blue and white Argentina jerseys from the historic 2022 FIFA World Cup, were sold by auction house Sotheby’s.
The victory represented a significant moment in Messi’s career as Argentina won its third World Cup by defeating France in a penalty shootout. A portion of the auction proceeds will be donated to the UNICAS Project to aid children with rare diseases.
