Mohsin Naqvi’s assumption of leadership at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) marks a notable shift in the organization’s direction. As he concurrently handles responsibilities as the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, his tenure brings a unique perspective to the board’s operations.
In a strategic move, Naqvi intends to bring in his own team to the PCB, a decision that has led to the acquisition of three bureaucrats from the Punjab government on a two-year deputation. Among them are Lieutenant (Retd) Sohail Ashraf from the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), along with officers from the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), Irtiza Komail, and Zain Asim.

The involvement of Lieutenant (Retd) Sohail Ashraf is particularly significant, although the exact nature of his role within the PCB is yet to be determined. It’s worth noting that any appointment to the CEO position may require an amendment to the organization’s constitution, as the title isn’t currently included in its framework. As a potential solution, the position could be renamed as Managing Director (MD) to align with existing structures.
Naqvi’s initiatives and the introduction of new leadership at the PCB reflect a proactive approach to governance and administration within the cricketing body. It remains to be seen how these changes will impact the future trajectory of Pakistan cricket and the PCB’s role on the international stage.
