The Ministry for Planning in Pakistan is gearing up to inaugurate the long-awaited ML-1 project in February 2024.
The caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, is expected to inaugurate the project before the general elections scheduled for February 8, 2024.

The revised plan for the ML-1 project, which aims to upgrade the railway infrastructure, is anticipated to be approved by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) and the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in January.
The project is estimated to cost $6.7 billion, with phase one at $2.7 billion, phase two at $2.6 billion, and phase three at $1.4 billion. The ML-1 project includes the construction of railway tracks from Kemari to Hyderabad, Hyderabad to Multan, Multan to Lahore, Lahore to Lalamusa, and Nawabshah to Rohri. Chinese authorities are expected to present the approved plan for ML-1 to Pakistan in the coming week.
