North Korea Convened a Significant Party Meeting Following Putin Visit

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un initiated a significant ruling party meeting on Friday, as reported by state media. According to Reuters, this meeting occurred just over a week after Pyongyang and Moscow signed a military defense agreement, raising concerns in the US.

During the 10th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, five agenda items were approved, though the KCNA did not detail them.

Kim presided over the meeting to “review the work done in the first half of the year and address a series of important immediate issues,” according to the statement.

On June 19, North Korea and Russia renewed a Cold War-era deal in Pyongyang, committing to mutual military support in case of an attack.
