Pakistan Customs Seizes Smuggled Car Parts Worth Rs.1 Billion

In a significant operation targeting smugglers of auto parts, Pakistan Customs confiscated illicit Japanese automobile components valued at Rs. 1.5 billion. The seized parts, including high-quality tie-rods and spark plugs, were found in a warehouse located in the SITE industrial area.

Director Customs Intelligence Karachi, Engineer Habib Ahmed, disclosed in a press conference that the raid was prompted by a tip-off received by Director General Customs Intelligence Faiz Chadhar. Additional Director Afzal Ahmed and Deputy Director Wasif Malik were also present during the briefing.

Officials stated that after a week-long surveillance led by the Deputy Director, the raid resulted in the recovery of Rs. 1.5 billion worth of smuggled auto parts. They emphasized that this case is not ordinary and may involve potential money laundering.

Moreover, the Director of Customs Intelligence disclosed that they had previously seized China-made smuggled spark plugs worth Rs. 1.6 million from a residence in DHA Phase-I in September. Providing statistics on recent operations, the official stated that Pakistan Customs has confiscated smuggled items worth Rs. 2.45 billion during the current month.
