If negotiations between Watson and the PCB are successful, he would become the highest-paid head coach in Pakistan cricket history. The final decision on his appointment is expected to be made in the upcoming days, with the PCB eager to finalize the agreement ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming commitments, including a five-match T20I series against New Zealand in April and the T20 World Cup.

With an illustrious playing career representing Australia in all three formats of the game, including winning the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, Watson brings a wealth of experience to the coaching role. His familiarity with Pakistani cricket is evident from his stint as head coach of the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and his previous participation as a player in the league.

PCB’s decision to offer Watson the national team coaching role is reportedly influenced by his successful performance with the Quetta Gladiators in PSL 9, where he led the team to qualify for the playoffs after a four-season gap.

Watson, affectionately known as ‘Watto’, is expected to consult with his family in Australia before making a final decision on accepting the coaching role with the Pakistan men’s cricket team.
