Over 100 people were hospitalised after a suspected food poisoning incident at a wedding ceremony in Hyderabadโs Qasimabad area. The illness was linked to a dessert described as contaminated custard, according to local reports.
Guests, including men, women, children, and elderly individuals, fell ill shortly after consuming the sweet dish. Many of them experienced severe stomach pain, vomiting, and nausea within a short time. The sudden outbreak caused panic at the event.
All affected individuals were quickly shifted to Qasimabad Taluka Hospital for urgent medical care. Hospital officials confirmed that an emergency was declared due to the high number of patients arriving at once. Medical staff worked continuously to stabilize the patients.
Doctors said most patients showed symptoms consistent with food poisoning. Several reports indicated that the contaminated custard was served during the wedding feast and likely caused the illness.
Eyewitnesses said the guests began feeling unwell soon after eating the dessert. The rapid spread of symptoms among attendees raised immediate concern among organizers and medical responders.
Deputy Commissioner Zain-ul-Abideen Memon stated that preliminary investigations pointed to the dessert as the source of the outbreak. He confirmed that early findings strongly suggest contaminated custard as the cause of mass illness.
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident. The Sindh Food Authority has been directed to inspect the catering setup and food preparation site used for the wedding event. Officials aim to determine whether hygiene standards were violated.
Health authorities confirmed that all patients were in stable condition after treatment. However, they remain under observation to ensure full recovery and to prevent any complications.
Medical teams continue to monitor the affected individuals closely. Hospital staff said the situation is now under control, but vigilance is still necessary due to the scale of the outbreak.
Officials stressed the importance of food safety compliance at public events. They warned that negligence in food preparation can lead to serious consequences, as seen in this case involving contaminated custard.
Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are expected to take action based on the findings. The incident has raised concerns about food safety standards at large gatherings, especially wedding ceremonies where bulk food is prepared.
The case highlights how quickly contaminated custard or other unsafe food items can impact public health when proper checks are not followed.
