QUETTA: Balochistan police have arrested 11 suspects in a brutal honour killing case that has sparked outrage across the province. The incident involved the murder of a married couple and was caught on video, which later went viral on social media.
The couple was reportedly in an arranged marriage. They were shot dead in a remote area just days before Eidul al-Adha. Authorities believe the killings were planned and carried out in the name of honour.
The graphic video of the double murder shocked the public and prompted swift action from the Balochistan government. Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti confirmed the arrests in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter). He said the operation to capture all involved is still ongoing.
“So far, 11 accused have been arrested. The state stands with the oppressed. All involved will be brought to justice,” he stated.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that the state took a suo motu notice after the video surfaced. A case has been registered under anti-terrorism laws on behalf of the state. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to take strict action.
He added, “The law will take its course. Those who challenge the writ of the state and commit such barbaric acts will not be spared.”
Government spokesperson Shahid Rind also confirmed the seriousness of the investigation. He said that intelligence and security agencies are working together to uncover the full details, including the location and motive behind the killings.
This case has drawn attention to the ongoing issue of honour-based violence in parts of Pakistan. Many activists and citizens are calling for stronger protections and quicker justice in such cases.
