5.5 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

ISLAMABAD โ€“ A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck Islamabad and several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday, causing widespread panic among residents. People rushed out of their homes and offices as tremors shook the region.

The Seismological Center reported that the earthquake was felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Swat, and Chitral. The tremors originated at a depth of 195 kilometers, with the epicenter located in Afghanistanโ€™s Hindu Kush region.

Witnesses described scenes of fear as residents recited prayers and hurriedly evacuated buildings. Authorities, however, confirmed that no casualties or significant property damage had been reported so far.

Experts said that seismic activity in the Hindu Kush region is common. This area lies on an active fault line, making it prone to earthquakes that can affect Pakistan and neighboring countries.

Officials urged residents to remain calm and follow safety protocols during tremors. They also advised avoiding unstable structures and staying away from tall buildings until the situation stabilizes.

Seismologists continue to monitor the region for aftershocks and have urged people to report any unusual shaking. Authorities emphasized preparedness and community awareness to minimize risks in earthquake-prone areas.

This incident highlights the ongoing vulnerability of northern Pakistan to seismic events. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed and maintain emergency supplies in case of future earthquakes.
