More Than 52,000 Mosque Imams Receive Government Honorarium in Punjab

The Punjab government has begun distributing financial support to thousands of religious leaders across the province. More than 52,000 mosque imams have received payments under the provincial Honorarium program.

According to official data released by the Punjab Home Department, a total of 52,913 mosque imams received payments during the first phase of the initiative. The program aims to support religious leaders who serve communities in mosques across Punjab.

Authorities compiled a list of 74,235 mosques located throughout the province. A total of 76,144 applications were submitted by mosque imams seeking financial assistance through the Honorarium scheme.

Before payments were issued, the government implemented a detailed verification process. All applications were forwarded to the Counter-Terrorism Department and the Special Branch for security clearance.

Officials said the verification process was conducted at district levels across Punjab. After the review, 70,653 applications were approved for further processing. Some cases are still undergoing examination and verification.

The government also carried out identity verification through the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). More than 58,000 mosque imams had their information verified during this stage.

After successful verification, bank accounts were opened for eligible applicants at the Bank of Punjab. This step allowed authorities to transfer the Honorarium payments directly to verified beneficiaries.

Officials confirmed that the program has already released a significant amount of financial support. So far, the government has distributed approximately Rs1.3228 billion under the Honorarium scheme.

The initiative is designed to recognize the services of mosque imams who play an important role in religious education and community guidance. Many imams lead prayers, deliver sermons, and provide counseling to community members.

Government representatives say the program also promotes transparency. Multiple institutions were involved in the verification process to ensure that payments reached genuine applicants.

Authorities believe the Honorarium program will provide financial stability to thousands of mosque leaders. The initiative also strengthens cooperation between religious institutions and the provincial administration.

Officials added that further payments may be released as remaining applications complete the verification process. The government continues to review pending cases to ensure accurate records and proper distribution of funds.
