The Azad Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to restore internet services in phases.
The plan covers eight districts across the region. The AJK government has formally sought approval from the federal Ministry of Interior.
According to an AJK Home Department notification, connectivity will resume in selected areas. Some locations will initially have limited access.
In Muzaffarabad Division, DSL, 3G and 4G services will be restored. Residents will regain access under the phased connectivity plan.
In Bagh and Dhirkot, DSL services will be restored on a restricted basis. Initially, educational institutions and banks will receive access.
Internet services will also return in Haveli Kahuta. Both DSL and 3G/4G connectivity will be restored there.
Residents across Mirpur and Bhimber districts will receive DSL internet access. The restoration will provide broader connectivity in both districts.
However, some areas will continue to face restrictions. DSL services will remain unavailable in Sehensa, Sarsawa, Baloch and Tatta Pani.
Internet services will also remain suspended in Rawalakot and Sudhanoti for the time being. Authorities have not announced when connectivity will return there.
The phased plan aims to gradually restore communication services across AJK. Restrictions will remain in selected areas during the initial stages.
The government’s request now requires approval from the federal Ministry of Interior. The approval will allow the proposed restoration plan to proceed.
The decision follows a communication shutdown introduced earlier this year. Authorities suspended mobile phone and internet services across AJK in June.
The suspension came ahead of a planned strike by the Joint Awami Action Committee. The shutdown was linked to security and administrative concerns.
According to reports, the communication blackout began at 11:30pm on June 5, 2026. The move followed a breakdown in negotiations between the government and JAAC.
At that time, services were expected to remain suspended until June 12. The suspension affected mobile and internet connectivity across the region.
The latest decision could gradually restore access for residents and institutions. However, authorities will continue restrictions in areas identified in the notification.
The restoration of internet services could benefit students and educational institutions. Banks will also receive priority access in some restricted locations.
Reliable internet connectivity is important for education, banking and communication. The phased approach allows authorities to resume services while maintaining controls.
In Muzaffarabad Division, residents are expected to regain wider connectivity. DSL and mobile broadband services will be available under the approved plan.
Haveli Kahuta will also receive both fixed and mobile internet services. Mirpur and Bhimber will receive DSL connectivity across their districts.
However, residents of Rawalakot and Sudhanoti will continue facing a temporary suspension. The same applies to several areas where DSL remains unavailable.
The government has not provided a specific date for the full restoration. The process will depend on the required federal approval.
Officials will likely monitor the situation as services resume. Further adjustments could be made based on security and administrative conditions.
The decision to restore internet access marks a gradual shift from the earlier restrictions. It could help normalize digital communication across several parts of AJK.
